Where we are

199 Petchaburi Rd., direct connected access via Exit 4 from Ratchathewi BTS and only one stop from Siam.

The hotel stands at 199 Phaya Thai Road in Ratchathewi, connected directly to Exit 4 of BTS Ratchathewi station. Siam is one stop south and Phaya Thai, where the Airport Rail Link terminates, is one stop north. The walking and travel times below are measured from the station exit at the building, not from the district.

Getting here from the airport

From Suvarnabhumi, take the Airport Rail Link to Phaya Thai, around thirty minutes, then one BTS stop south to Ratchathewi. The journey is unaffected by traffic, which matters for early departures and late arrivals. A taxi takes forty-five minutes to well over an hour depending on the time of day.

From Don Mueang there is no direct rail link. A taxi is usually quickest outside peak hours.

Shopping within walking distance

Pratunam Market is about ten minutes on foot, heading east along Phetchaburi Road. It is a wholesale fashion district, busiest from early morning, and prices drop sharply if you buy more than one of anything.

Platinum Fashion Mall sits beside it, roughly twelve minutes from the door, selling the same kind of stock at fixed prices across several floors with air conditioning. Between them they cover most of what visitors come to Pratunam for.

The Siam shopping district

Siam Paragon, Siam Center and Siam Discovery are one BTS stop south, about three minutes of travel time, with a covered walkway from Siam station into the malls. On foot the same journey takes around twenty minutes straight down Phaya Thai Road, passing Siam Square on the way.

Siam Square One and the surrounding lanes sit on the south side of the interchange, and the Ratchaprasong cluster of CentralWorld, Gaysorn and the Erawan Shrine is two stops south at Chit Lom.

Attractions and landmarks

The Jim Thompson House museum is near National Stadium, one stop west of Siam. The Bangkok Art and Culture Centre is at the same station. Baiyoke Tower is a short walk from Pratunam. Wat Pho and the Grand Palace are around twenty-five minutes by road, or reachable by BTS to Saphan Taksin and then the Chao Phraya Express Boat.

Two Mercure hotels in Siam: which one is this?

There are two Mercure hotels in the Siam area of Bangkok and they are easily confused when booking. This one is Mercure Bangkok Siam Ratchathewi, at 199 Phaya Thai Road, connected directly to Exit 4 of BTS Ratchathewi station. The other stands at the western edge of the district, beside National Stadium.

If you are travelling by train the difference is practical rather than cosmetic. Ratchathewi sits on the Sukhumvit Line, one stop north of the Siam interchange and one stop south of Phaya Thai, where the Airport Rail Link terminates. That puts Suvarnabhumi roughly thirty minutes away on rail the whole way, with a single change.

National Stadium is the western terminus of the Silom Line. Reaching the Airport Rail Link from there means changing at Siam and again at Phaya Thai, so arrival and departure days take longer.

When booking, look for Ratchathewi in the hotel name and the 199 Phaya Thai Road address. Full directions and travel times are set out above.
